Always write your postage checks directly to the post office – never to the lettershop.
This ensures that the money is used only for postage for your jobs.
But one more thing.
I’ve personally experienced situations where the lettershop altered my check so that instead of saying “U.S. Postmaster,” it said “U.S. Postmaster –
ABC LetterShop”… and the bank not only cashed the check, they put the money into the lettershop’s account.
So to protect yourself even further, fill out the “pay to the order of” line on your check with asterisks as follows “***U.S. Postmaster***************.”
