48,000 New Subscribers…
How?
By using a VSL.
A VSL is a direct response video—A video sales letter.
Video is a powerful tool to generate leads and customers. Every campaign I do uses a video component. In fact, we have created over 400 TV commercials, infomercials, videos, and VSLs.
A VSL is one of the video tools a marketer has and it’s very responsive.
This marketing tool generated over 48,000 subscribers at a price point of $49 each, or $2.35 million in around 6 months.
In addition to the new subscribers, the company will enjoy a revenue stream from subscribers who renew their subscriptions.
But that’s not all. They also used the new subscribers as an upsell audience.
In their first upsell to the 48,000 new subscribers, they generated 3,000 additional new subscribers for a $2,200 upsell product, generating $6.6 million.
The tool they used is a Video Sales Letter (VSL). We’ve used VSLs for our clients for many years.
Why? Because they work.
Similar to an infomercial, the 30-minute sales program seen on cable, satellite, and broadcast TV, a VSL has many of the same characteristics.
The biggest difference is that a VSL presentation is first emailed to a prospect, or they see a digital ad driving the prospect to a dedicated landing page where they can watch the video presentation.
You’re locked into a fixed timeframe in a traditional 30-minute infomercial (really 28 minutes and 30 seconds). But the VSL can be shorter or longer….
Some are 12 minutes long, while others have been 48 minutes… and I’ve even seen ones that are 60 minutes long.
VSLs need to have all of the same characteristics as an infomercial.
Having done 13 infomercials, I can tell you that if you don’t do these key parts, you won’t get a great response…
You need to use:
- Direct response copy for the script
- A Direct response offer
- A credible spokesperson/personality to help drive sales
- Use multiple points within the presentation to place the order
- A strong guarantee and discount
- Great graphics to compliment the VSL (but it will be more personality-driven)
