The 2024 election will be the “election of deception.”
Top Marketing Guru Craig Huey, winner of 113 marketing awards and author of The New Multichannel Integrated Marketing: 29 Trends for Creating a Multichannel, Integrated Campaign to Boost Your Profits Now, says, “AI deepfakes will deceive many and shift the election.”
Foreign governments know it.
Political consultants know it.
Campaigns know it.
Here are 4 things you should know…
Deepfakesd can be a tool marketers use for good promoting services or it can be used to destroy or deceive.
From a marketing perspective, deepfakes in 2024 will be used mostly to destroy and deceive.
1) Deepfakes could fool millions of voters in 2024
Artificial intelligence (AI) produces a deepfake. It’s inexpensive and done so well that anyone can create it with modern software.
For example, you can get a robocall that’s completely AI-generated and won’t know you are not speaking to a live person.
For a video, you’re convinced it’s a true video.
And for an ad or photo, it’s completely convincing… But it’s not true.
Software can’t detect it.
The eye can’t detect it.
The ear can’t detect it.
But the deepfakes can ruin a candidate’s reputation.
A good deepfake can convince enough voters, especially in a tight election, of a falsehood that either suppresses the supporters’ vote or increases the turnout of a candidate’s opposition.
2) Deepfakes have already been used in the 2024 election
The role of AI in politics is very dangerous.
For example, in my new book, The Great Deception: 10 Shocking Dangers and the Blueprint for Rescuing the American Dream, I outline several cases where politicians were used in deepfakes.
Would you ever believe that Democrat Hillary Clinton would ever endorse Republican Ron DeSantis… but she did. I watched the video myself, along with millions of other people online.
The only problem was it wasn’t true. It was a deepfake… one of the first ones.
Since then, there have been scores of political deepfakes with Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Ron DeSantis, and others.
For example, in my book, I go into detail about a deepfake involving Ron DeSantis at a fundraiser helped by radical socialist billionaire George Soros.
I personally received calls and emails from hundreds of angry conservatives furious that DeSantis would partner up with a radical anti-American like George Soros.
The deepfake convinced many DeSantis supporters, Trump supporters, Conservatives, and Republicans.
Another deepfake that shook up voters were images of Trump hugging Dr. Anthony Fauci.
DeSantis supporters wanted to hit home that Trump failed to stop the business and church lockdowns that crippled our economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
These were compelling uses of deepfakes to underscore political messaging.
3) Deepfakes have turned us from an age of skepticism to an age of deception.
We live in a time when people think they are doing good when they are actually not. With deepfakes, you don’t need a lot of money to be able to promote falsehoods.
It can be done by people who think they are doing good, like the Christians who warned about the Satan/Black Mass McDonald’s Happy Meal—a deepfake April Fool’s Day prank so convincing that thousands of people posted a photo of the fake Happy Meal ad on social media and called for boycotts of McDonald’s.
The Satan Happy Meal deepfake has received over 880,000 views since April 1.
4) Deepfakes will be changing the way people see an election
2024 is a year of transition. Without being able to tell the truth from fiction or fantasy from reality, people can’t tell what’s deceptive or not.
In today’s world, when you see a political commercial, is it true or false?
There was a time when people would believe what they saw. They’d get a video clip from a friend and were sure it was true. That kind of trust is going to start to dissipate.
While it won’t be a complete destruction of trust in this election cycle, people are increasingly unlikely to believe anything that they see, hear, or read unless it comes from a trusted source or they see and hear it personally themselves.
However, during this transition, the 2024 election will be an AI deepfake election, in which the candidate, supporters, enemies, and detractors who create the best deepfakes can manipulate the election outcome for or against their candidate.
