I have produced over 400 TV commercials and videos.

Among the 90 awards that I have won, many are for TV and video.

I’ve seen many mistakes in creating a TV commercial. The list can be quite long.

But there is one mistake that might hit the #1 spot today. It’s a mistake that most people who are doing TV commercials never think about, but it diminishes their effectiveness and their response.

And it’s driven by changes in technology. Changes in technology continue to expand and improve TV response…and make it possible for marketers to air their TV commercials on radio.

The #1 mistake marketers make when making a TV commercial is not creating their commercial to be radio-friendly.

Commercials need to be optimized for the radio. Long silences or strange noises need graphics or images to help explain them…leave them out of your commercials. And make sure to give listeners a clear call-to-action.

This is especially critical now, as many marketers are airing their commercials on Sirius XM Radio and other popular platforms.
